In conjunction with the RSA student awards, a brief was given to design a way to increase and maintain mental agility and ‘brain power’ in older age. Talk Table is a social campaign I developed in response to this brief.
Socialisation is key to an active and healthy mind. Conversations provide stimulation and social problem solving opportunities which allow the brain to remain cognitively sharp when combined with other key ingredients such as nutrition and physical fitness. Talk Table provides a space for conversations to happen. It transforms public spaces into dedicated areas for socialisation and provides a venue for seniors to come together sharing thoughts, stories and memories. Talk Table is a book club that substitutes literature for thought.
Talk Tables are recognised by vinyl applied to designated areas. The versatility of the vinyl means that Talk Tables can be placed anywhere public from parks to local restaurants. The stickers indicate that the selected places are areas for socialisation, with regular themes, topics or speakers scheduled in these areas to encourage participation and provide fuel for conversation.
